10 breakfast recipes for 2+ year toddler and kids ( Indian toddler & kids breakfast recipes )

 

 




 


Recipe #1 – Raisin Oatmeal recipe

Ingredients: ( for #1 – raisin oatmeal )
1/4 cup – oats
1 tbsp – raisin
1 tsp – pistachio ( powdered ) or almond
1 cup – milk
1/2 tsp – honey ( or 1/2 tsp raw sugar)

Method:
Step 1) Get ready with all the ingredients
Step 2) Into a saucepan, pour 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup oats,1 tbsp raisins, 1 tsp pistachio powder ..
Step 3) Put the heat on high and bring it to a boil ..
Step 4) Once it starts boiling, reduce to low and cook for 5 minutes ..

Pour into a bowl and let it cool .. Serve when slightly warm ..


Recipe #2 – Dosa and tomato chutney recipe

Ingredients: ( for tomato chutney)
1 tbsp – oil
1/4 tsp – mustard seeds
pinch – cumin seeds
2 – dried red chilli ( whole )
1 – garlic ( chopped or crushed)
pinch – asafoetida ( hing )
1 sprig – curry leaves
1 – onion (chopped)
5 – tomatoes
1/4 tsp – turmeric powder
1/4 tsp – chilli powder
salt to taste

Ingredients: ( for dosa )
1 cup – dosa batter ( click here for crispy dosa batter recipe )
little oil

Method:
Step 1) Heat pan and pour 1 tbsp of oil  ..
Step 2) Add 1/4 tsp mustard seeds, 1/4 tsp cumin and 2 dried red chillies ..
Step 3) Add curry leaves, 1 crushed garlic, 1 chopped onion and cook until onion turns soft ..
Step 4) Add a pinch of asafoetida, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp chilli powder and cook for 20 seconds ..
Step 5) Add 5 chopped tomato and cook on high heat for 1 minute ..
Step 6) Add salt to taste. Cover and cook on medium-low heat for 10 minutes ..
Make dosa..
  • grease tawa/skillet with little oil ..
  • Pour 1/4 cup of dosa batter to make ‘mini oothappam dosa’
  • Drizzle little oil and cook for 1 minute ..
  • Flip and cook other side for 30 seconds ..
  • remove dosa to a plate and serve with little tomato chutney


Recipe #3 – Soft idli & chutney recipe

Serve 1 or 2 idli’s for 2 – 3 year toddlers ..

Serve 2 idli’s for 3 – 4 year kids, ( 3 idli’s for 5+ kids )


Recipe #4 – Rava upma recipe

Ingredients:
( for #4 – rava(sooji) upma )
1 tbsp – ghee
1/2 cup – rava ( roasted rava / sooji / semolina )
1 cup – water
salt to taste
2 – tomato ( chopped)
1/2 tsp – ginger garlic paste
pinch – asafoetida (hing)
1 green chilli
1 sprig curryleaves
1/4 tsp – mustard seeds
Spices:
1/4 tsp – turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp – chilli powder,
1/2 tsp – coriander powder, 1/4 tsp – cumin powder,
1/4 tsp – pepper powder

Method:
Step 1) Get ready with all the ingredients ..
Step 2) Heat pan and add 1 tbsp ghee ( or oil ) ..
Step 3) Add 1/4 tsp mustard seeds and curry leaves ..
Step 4) Add 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic paste and cook for 20 seconds ..
Step 5) Add greenchilli, 2 chopped tomato and cook on medium-heat until soft ( takes 2 – 3 minutes )..
Step 6) Add spice powders, asafoetida (hing), salt and cook for 1 minute ..
Step 7) Pour 1 cup water, cover and bring it to a boil ..
Step 8) Once it starts boiling, add the rava/sooji, cover and cook on low-heat for 8 minutes ..
Once ready,.. let it cool.. serve when slightly warm

Serve 1 cup upma for 2 – 4 year toddlers.. Serve 2 cups for 5+ kids..


Recipe #5 – Egg ( boiled & omlet )

Boiled egg
( Serve 1 egg for 2+ toddlers & kids )
  • Cut hard boiled eggs into small pieces
  • Add a pinch of salt & pepper.. and serve warm
  • or let them help themselves (after 2.5 years) ..littleones playaround with egg yolks.. keep an eye 😀

Omlet

  • Beat 1 egg with a pinch of salt & pepper
  • Heat a pan and add some oil or butter
  • Pour the beaten egg and cook until  the top looks cooked
  • Flip and make plain omlet .. or top with cheese slice and let it melt
  • Take out.. cut and serve for 2 – 5 year kids..


Recipe #6 – Palak (spinach) paratha

Ingredients: ( for #6 – spinach paratha )
1 cup – wheat flour ( atta )
1 cup – spinach ( finely chopped )
1 tbsp – ghee
1 garlic – crushed ( small garlic or a small piece)
1/4 tsp – salt
water (as needed to make a soft dough )
oil ( 1 tsp – to coat the dough & 2 tsp for cooking paratha)

Method:
Step 1) Get ready with all the ingredients ..
Step 2) Into a bowl, add 1 cup wheat flour(atta), 1 garlic crushed, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 cup spinach,1/2 tsp ghee ..
Step 3) Add little water at a time and make a soft dough ..
Step 4) Coat with a tsp of oil and make small dough balls ..
Step 5) Dust and roll a dough ball into a thin roti (flatbread) ..
Step 6) Spread a tsp of ghee on top ..
Step 7) Sprinkle some flour, pleat from one end, roll and seal the edges under the dough ball..
Step 8) Dust and roll again..
Step 9) Cook the paratha :
  • heat tawa/griddle and cook bottom-side for 40 seconds ..
  • Flip and cook otherside for 40 seconds ..
  • coat the top with little oil ..
  • Flip and coat the top with little oil ..
  • Final flip, cook for 10 seconds and remove from heat..

This paratha is a great choice for fussy littleones ! .. my 2 year old loves ! 🙂 .. can be served for breakfast, lunch or dinner ..

 

Recipe #7 –  Appam recipe (pancake)
 
Ingredients: ( to make appam )
1 cup – appam batter ( click here for crispy appam batter )
1/4 tsp – raw sugar ( to sprinkle over appam)

Method:
Step 1) Heat appam pan and swirl 1/4 cup appam batter.
Cover and cook for 1 minute .
Step 2) Once the appam is cooked.. remove to a plate..
Sprinkle little raw sugar when warm .. roll and serve ..
note: you can also serve with mild curry or tomato chutney or coconut chutney

Recipe #8 – Rava idli & coconut chutney

Ingredients: ( for rava idli)
1 cup – semolina (idli rava)
1 tbsp – ghee
1 cup – yogurt (thick)
1/4 tsp – mustard seeds
1 tsp – urad dal
1 tsp – chana dal
1/2 tsp – ginger (crushed)
1 tbsp – coriander leaves
1 tbsp – coconut
1/4 cup – water
1/4 cup – cashews (chopped)
1/4 tsp – salt

Ingredients: ( for coconut chutney)
1 cup – coconut
1/4 tsp – ginger
1/4 tsp – cumin seeds
1 tbsp – coriander leaves
5 – shallots (small onion) or 1 tbsp onion
1 cup – water
tiny piece – tamarind ( or 1/2 tsp lemon juice)
salt to taste
For tadka/garnish:
2 tsp – oil
1/4 tsp – mustard seeds,
some curry leaves
1 dried red chilli


Method: ( Coconut chutney )

Step 1) Into a blender, add the coconut, cumin seeds, shallots, ginger, coriander leaves, tamarind, salt
Step 2) Pour 1 cup water and blend until fine ..
Step 3) Heat a pan and pour 2 tsp oil ..
Step 4) Add 1/4 tsp mustard seeds, 1 dried red chilli and some curry leaves..
Step 5) Pour the ground coconut chutney and heat on medium-heat just until off boil (just before boiling). ( Do not boil..) Turn off the heat and remove from heat.

Method:
( Rava idli )
Step 1) Heat a wok or pan and add 1 tbsp of ghee ..
Step 2) Add 1/4 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp urad dal, 1 tsp chana dal, 1 tbsp chopped cashews. mix 1 minute..
Step 3) Add 1/2 tsp crushed ginger, 1/4 cup grated coconut and mix for 1 minute..
Step 4) Add 1 cup coarse semolina (idli rava) and roast the rava for just 1 minute.
Step 5) Immediately, add into a bowl and let it cool for 10 minutes ..
Step 6) Add 1 cup yogurt, 1 tbsp coriander leaves, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 cup water and mix..
Step 7) Fill the idli steamer with water and bring it to a boil ( on high heat ) ..
Step 8) Grease the idli moulds with little oil ..
Step 9) Fill the idli moulds with batter ( do not over fill) ..
Step 10) Place the idli moulds into the steamer and steam on high heat for 2 minutes ..
 
Step 11) After 2 minutes, reduce to medium-high and cook for 8 minutes ..
Once ready, remove the idli moulds and let it sit for 5 minutes ..
Remove the rava idli and keep it covered until serving ..
Serve with coconut chutney .. Serve 1 or 2 idli’s for 2 – 3 year toddlers..
and 2 idli’s for 4+ kids .. ( more if they wish 😀 ..

Recipe #9 – Bread butter jam


Ingredients: ( for #9 – bread butter jam )
1 or 2 – bread slices ( multigrain/ wholemeal/ wheat )
1 tsp – butter
1 tsp – jam

Method:
Step 1) Toast the bread ( in toaster or pan) ..
Step 2) Spread a tsp of butter and jam ..

Cut into small squares for 2 – 5 year kids ..and serve ..


Recipe #10 – Poha ( aval ) porridge


Ingredients:
( for #10 – Poha (aval) porridge )

1/4 cup – poha ( I used ‘ brown aval / poha ‘ )
1 cup – milk
1 tsp – crushed cashew ( or almonds)
1/2 tsp – raw sugar ( or jaggery )

Method:
Step 1) Get ready with all the ingredients ..
Step 2) Into a pan, add 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup aval / poha, 1 tsp powdered cashew and 1/2 tsp raw sugar..
Step 3) Put the heat on high and bring it to a boil ..
Step 4) Once it starts boiling, reduce to low and cook for 8 minutes ..

Pour into a cup and let it cool .. Let it cool down .. and serve when slightly warm ..
